About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Tacoma is located on the shores of Commencement Bay, within pristine eyesight of Mount Rainier. World-class museums, hotels and theaters draw thousands to downtown Tacoma. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes decontaminating and sterilizing dental and medical instruments for patient treatments; using chemical, biological, and mechanical systems to test equipment and ensure effective sterilization.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Receive dental supplies, instruments, and equipment; disassemble items as needed and inspect them for condition and functionality.
Sterilize tools and equipment using manual and mechanical methods; apply microbiological processes and controls through wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, and operating ultrasonic cleaners and instrument washers.
Daily tests equipment for sterilization effectiveness using chemical, mechanical, and biological monitors; compares results to standards (time, temp, pressure) and corrects deviations.
Test equipment sterilization using chemical, mechanical, and biological monitors; compares results to time, temp, pressure standards; takes corrective action when deviations occur.
Assist the dentist in providing patient treatments.
Manage inventory of supplies, instruments, and equipment; identifies reordering needs; fulfill daily or special requests; and recommend suitable substitutions when items are unavailable.
