Job Description:

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Lead Security Guard for DES, Access Control Branch located at Ft Leavenworth, KS.
Who May Apply: US Citizens Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applications will be accepted from non-preference eligibles; however, these applications will not be considered if preference eligible applicants are available. Note: An agency may fill a restricted position with a non-preference eligible by position change (promotion, demotion, or reassignment) from among current permanent Department of the Army employees. Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) controlling access of vehicles, visitors, and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; 2) using automated systems to query and/or verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation; and 3) safeguarding personnel, information, and/or property/critical assets in a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization.. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
As a Lead Security Guard, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Function as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access.
Responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.
Make daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and VIP's.
Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
