To qualify for GS-04, you must have six months of general experience AND six months of specialized at or equivalent to the GS-3 equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-03) to be creditable. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience that provided a knowledge of the goals, principles, methods, and techniques of recreation, And an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups. -OR- 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation, if required;-OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. To qualify for GS-05, you must have one-year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-04) to be creditable. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience that provided a knowledge of the goals, principles, methods, and techniques of recreation, And an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups. -OR- Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. To qualify for GS-06, you must have one-year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-05) to be creditable. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation such as: planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs; planning, establishing, Evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. -OR- One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. To qualify for GS-07, you must have one-year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-06) to be creditable. Specialized experience is defined as: Demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation such as: planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations .-OR-One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position; -OR-Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Work Environment: The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain; to include steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; positions require physical exertions, such as, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and similar activities. Individuals should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during early morning hours, night, or during the day.
Assure recreation sites and areas are operated and maintained in accordance with operation and maintenance plans.
Reports on the conditions and use of sites and areas.
Reporting on the conditions of a site and area is very similar to reporting back of unsafe, or hazardous situations.
Collects data from visitor use monitoring devices.
Patrol wilderness to ensure areas are operated, used and maintained in accordance with plan.
Advise visitors about safety, fire prevention and proper and authorized use of recreational facilities.
Provides detailed information to the public about recreation opportunities, campground fees, available facilities, etc.
