About the Position: This position serves as a Health Technician (Surgical) in a Medical Treatment Facility, responsible for presurgical, surgical, postsurgical, and equipment and operating maintenance. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments; preparing supplies based on specific surgical procedures; and screening and transporting of patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Screen patient to ensure all requirements are met and transports patients from the hospital units to the operating room.
Responsible for aseptic techniques maintenance during the process of preparing for/assisting in the surgical procedure.
Select and assemble required supplies, equipment and instruments based on operative worksheets, preference cards, or guidance from physicians or the charge nurse.
Conduct sponge, sharps, and instrument counts with the charge nurse, verifying the final count at the end of each procedure or when personnel change.
Clean operating room post-surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials; changes linen; washes, disassembles, sterilizes, and reassembles instruments.
Orient and train newly assigned personnel and students explaining operating room procedures and requirements. Gives and receives in-service training in new technology, equipment, instruments, and new techniques.
