About the Position: The incumbent serves as Medical Records Technician (MRT), functioning primarily as an inpatient/ outpatient records coder. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical support duties related to processing, reviewing, and maintaining medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness; validating health data for statistical, administrative, and reporting purposes; using automated coding tools and references to support accurate record review and documentation; validating health data for statistical, administrative, and reporting purposes. OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical transcriptionist, Health information, and Healthcare IT specialist . OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Utilize hospital automated patient health record related software such as, the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS to retrieve various reports and input data.
Serve as Medical Records Technician (MRT), functioning primarily as an inpatient/ outpatient records coder.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and third-party insurance requirements in utilizing the International Code of Diseases-10 Clinical Modifications (ICD-10-CM), and Procedure Coding System (PCS) coding books.
Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients.
Use specialized procedures and methods to correct and amend records.
Code complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures on specific DRGs that are identified as difficult to classify.
Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.
