Job Description:
The Canteen Chief - Unassigned is a travelling position that will be assigned as needed to Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) operations Nationwide to provide interim leadership and operational coverage. This position will be based out of the VA Medical Center closest to their residence and the salary will be set based on the locality for that area. Assignments will be directed by the Chief Operating officer (COO) and/or Chief Stores Officer (CSO).
Financial & Trend Analysis: Ability to analyze retail and food financial statements using trend analysis to identify issues and implement effective solutions. Program & Project Management: Proven ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate retail, food, and vending programs, initiatives, and projects. Data Analysis & Reporting: Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data to produce clear analytical reports, decision papers, and recommendations. Federal Travel Compliance: Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Travel Regulations, with the ability to book official travel and complete post-travel vouchers using approved systems. Operational Leadership & Continuity: Ability to assume full operational oversight in the absence of senior leadership, rapidly assessing challenges and identifying opportunities to improve performance and advance the VCS mission. Customer Experience Leadership: Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring consistent customer service standards across all staff. Experience: 3+ years of experience with the VCS or comparable management experience.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Store & Canteen Operations: Oversee daily retail, food, coffee, and vending operations to ensure efficient and compliant service delivery. Personnel Management: Manage the full scope of employee supervision, including performance standards and appraisals, scheduling, leave approval, and personnel actions in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Administrative Oversight & Compliance: Implement and monitor administrative controls, reviews, and operational processes to ensure effective and compliant canteen operations. Promotional Programs & Financial Performance: Develop and execute local promotional initiatives to drive financial performance and achieve program objectives established by the Regional Director. Additional Responsibilities & Flexibility: Perform and adapt to additional responsibilities as needed.
