This position is located at the Dayton VA Medical Center and supports the Mental Health Nursing Service. The Program Support Assistant (PSA) provides broad technical, administrative, and clerical support to Nursing Services at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The incumbent will interface with Nursing Services staff, customers, and stakeholders; develop and maintain records of budgeting and resource spending; review, analyze, and report on performance and compliance activities via data analysis.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing administrative support; Collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; Processing documents and reports; Establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; Performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; and providing information and customer service. Major duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent develops proposals and plans of action to improve office operations and provides liaison support in connection with those matters over which she/he has primary administrative responsibility. Independently observes need for administrative instruction or changes within patient/clinical services' operations, prepares correspondence and presents them for signature. Independently handles situations based on general knowledge of the organization and policy; disposes of routine matters where there is well-established policy and/or procedure. Reviews correspondence, (electronic and paper), directives, publications and standards in order to stay updated and informed, to determine appropriate action, responsibility, or area of interest Incumbent reviews reports, actions, and correspondence prepared for signature for conformance with Medical Center policy and VA regulations. Provides a broad spectrum of support to the Medical Center's Nursing Recruitment Program. Responsible for the clerical duties related to implementing a comprehensive healthcare recruitment and marketing program for the VA at Dayton. Prepares application and interview scoring sheets as directed. Works with Selecting Officials to schedule interviews and arranges meeting space. Maintains all preemployment forms and informational documents/handouts. Provides personnel management and administrative support to Nursing Service; acts as a liaison with the Human Resources office, coordinates personnel actions, maintains personnel-related records such as performance ratings, position descriptions, functional statements, awards, etc. Provides assistance to the Nurse Recruiter, Nurse Manager and supervisors in personnel matters involving staffing, leave administration, and training issues. Prepares personnel actions, tracks the status of various personnel actions from origination to conclusion in the areas relating to personnel management in order to ensure: that suspense dates are met, that employees are paid properly, that employees are at the proper step and within proper leave categories, etc. Provides assistance to supervisory and leadership staff for employees with the Family Medical Leave Act. Works with the employee, supervisor and Human Resources to ensure that the proper forms are completed and submitted. Performs other duties as assigned.
