To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Planning, implementing, monitoring environmental programs and services (determining needs, evaluating program effectiveness, assuring compliance with regulations). Assessing environmental data, verifying results, and discussing technical aspects of work with scientists, engineers, and other environmental experts. Preparing reports and performing field activities to ensure successful completion of environmental tasks as well as regulatory compliance. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Provides environmental support, issues air quality permits and conducts inspections and studies for over 80 DLA Disposition facility sites.
Initiates all required site environmental baseline surveys with the host as needed for return and acquisition of property.
Assists DLA Disposition Services Field sites in obtaining equipment air permitting as requested.
Develops plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of projects for procurement by contract in support of various assigned environmental programs as needed.
Evaluates and recommends action on all necessary permit revisions and/or permit applications involving various assigned environmental programs.
Determines compliance with applicable laws and government contracts and recommends and pursues changes to control or eliminate the potential for or existing hazards or violations.
