The Assistant Director for Business Management within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) serves as a critical leader in the Office of the Managing Executive (OME), ensuring that OIT's administrative, financial, and governance functions operate seamlessly to support the Commission's technology strategy. This role bridges operational execution with strategic priorities, enabling OIT to deliver secure, sustainable, and cost-effective technology solutions aligned with the SEC's mission.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-14 level. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: SK-17: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 level: Providing oversight and direction for a wide range of issues related to the operations and business management of internal administrative responsibilities such as human capital and resource allocation; AND Implementing administrative policies, procedures, and/or initiatives to meet organizational needs and accomplish program objectives; AND Working in both financial management/budget analysis and human resources with additional experience in at least 2 of the following areas: a) management analysis; b) risk management and/or internal controls; c) acquisitions management; or d) general administrative support such as space management, travel service, and/or property accountability.
The Assistant Director for Business Management role demands strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to integrate business operations into a complex IT environment. By managing resources, administration, and compliance, this position ensures that OIT delivers technology capabilities that advance the SEC's mission of protecting investors, maintaining fair markets, and facilitating capital formation. Typical Duties Include: Resource and Financial Management: Oversee budgets and manage cost tracking and reporting for hardware and software assets, ensuring fiscal accountability and compliance with federal requirements. Human Capital and Workforce Development: Support staffing strategies, workforce planning, and training initiatives to maintain a highly skilled IT workforce. Governance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to agency policies, federal standards, risk management, and internal controls across all business functions. Administrative Operations: Act as the conduit for internal offices to plan, manage, and execute mission requirements. Responsibilities include logistics, facilities management, records administration, and security coordination. Program and Performance Management: Conduct studies and analyses to improve operational effectiveness, provide accurate and timely reporting, and ensure that data-driven decisions support SEC goals.
