To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. You will serve as a Merchant Mariner Application Professional Qualification Evaluator and be responsible for providing qualification evaluations and determines applicant eligibility for vessel operation credentials. The position plays a key role reviewing merchant mariner applications to ensure regulatory requirements are verified and insufficient requirements are identified and relayed to applicants. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviews merchant mariner applications for issuance of requested Merchant Mariner Credentials Provides written and oral accurate, and precise replies to agencies, maritime academies, maritime schools, other professional maritime organizations, applicants, and the public on technical knowledge processes, production and other aspects of credentialing Determines the applicability and reasonableness of legal guidelines against individual mariner history in accordance with 46 CFR and other applicable resources Responsible for quality assurance and ensures work performed IAW applicable Coast Guard Quality Management System and guidance. Determines eligibility of qualified endorsements and drafts Merchant Mariner Credentials for issuance
