Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting a Podiatrist in treatment and procedures such as debridement of toenails, removal of corns or calluses, or applications of medications or dressings; preparing patients for podiatric procedures or exams; and maintaining supplies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position such as Podiatry. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Perform a full range of technical care for foot, ankle, and lower extremities.
Perform exams on patients that are seen in the Podiatry clinic on all consults that request orthotic evaluation.
Perform minor surgical procedures that can be difficult and complex under the direct supervision of the Podiatric physician.
Perform all post-operative care, to include evaluation of surgical site, dressing changes, and suture removal.
Order basic lab, radiology, nuclear medicine, and brace shop requests to assist Podiatrist with required patient care.
Construct and fit elastoplast arch supports and buttress pads to prevent pain and assist with daily function and movement.
Fit and adjust crutches to the patient.
Monitor and order all clinic supplies as approved by podiatrist.
