Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Applying mechanical engineering principles in the development or review of design documents, including drawings, specifications, or calculations for complex HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems to ensure their accuracy and constructability; AND 2) Performing comprehensive technical reviews of construction submittals to ensure strict compliance with contract documents; AND 3) Resolving mechanical engineering issues during construction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Note: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the basic education requirement listed below:
Conducts regular site visits and inspections to verify that mechanical system installation complies with the approved design, identifying deficiencies and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
Serves as the primary point of contact for resolving mechanical engineering issues during construction, coordinating with contractors and the designer of record to develop and approve effective solutions for unforeseen field conditions.
Participates in Biddability, Constructability, Operability, Environmental, and Sustainability (BCOES) reviews, analyzing final design documents to identify and mitigate potential mechanical system issues prior to the start of construction.
Provides technical oversight of the mechanical commissioning process by reviewing plans, witnessing functional performance tests, and validating test results to ensure systems meet all contract requirements prior to government acceptance.
Serves as a key technical resource for the project delivery team during pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, and project closeout, providing mechanical engineering expertise to ensure all project goals are met.
Serve as leading engineer on selected Sustainment, Restoration, and Maintenance projects which are primarily of a mechanical engineering nature to include Energy Management and Conservation Systems (EMCS).
Develop general and detailed drawings, design analyses, computations and calculations, and technical specifications for mechanical engineering features of assigned military design projects using a computer-aided design and drafting system (CADD).
