This vacancy is for an Assistant Regional Director with the Department of Commerce, located at multiple U.S. Census Bureau Regional Offices. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Assistant Regional Director, 0301-14 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes the overall management and oversight of office operations and programs that directly impact the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of an organization, multi-region programs, and headquarters-wide operations; providing administrative and technical guidance to subordinate staff working on data collection and processing efforts for large-scale surveys; assessing program effectiveness and developing plans to improve operations and reduce overall costs; and developing and maintaining a wide variety of outside contacts with local civic associations, businesses, and other community-based organizations. Education: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
Supervise the coordination and the integration of major work projects related to Regional Office data collection, and support (Geo., Admin., IT, etc.)
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy that assures a diverse workforce through hiring and recruiting.
Ensure procedures outlined in Bureau administrative or payroll manuals and other policies are followed.
Manage financial resources and implement more cost-effective methods of operation.
