About the Position: serves as a registered nurse responsible for the provision if professional nursing care to assigned patients covering pediatrics to geriatrics medicine, within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Recruitment incentive MAY be authorized. Advance in Hire MAY be authorized.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes collecting health information; AND identifying wellness risk factors; AND Identifying immediate health care for non-urgent patient problems; AND identifying and/or interpreting immediate life threatening conditions; AND performing comprehensive assessments of patient/family members' learning needs with established protocols. OR Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field including but not limited to Nursing Degree. EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program. OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
Documenting professional patient care in accordance with nursing standards of practice, licensed independent provider (LIP) orders, and established policies and procedures.
Obtains patient history. Collects and interprets health information, identifies wellness and risk factors, along with variations from norms, and makes an assessment.
Sets up, operates, and monitors medical equipment; maintains awareness of the patient’s condition and takes appropriate action as needed.
Interprets findings and reports to the LIP those findings which indicate a detrimental variation in the progress of the patient.
Identifies/establishes criteria and evaluates/assesses effectiveness of patient treatment, documents the effectiveness of care provided, and revises care plan in consultation with the LIP.
Identifies and manages immediate health care needs for non-urgent patient problems; recommends self-care as appropriate and as advised by approved clinical protocols.
Performs comprehensive assessments of patient/family members’ learning needs and limitations.

Maintains training currency and knowledge of required safety skills, including but not limited to emergency preparedness, hazardous materials handling, fire and safety plans, equipment failures, and utility outage response procedures.
Responds to emergency situations and fulfils assigned role in situation/event until resolved or care is assumed by appropriate response team.
Communicates plan of care to patients and family members, including knowledge of disease processes, treatments, and expected outcomes, providing emotional support as needed.
Educates patients/family members/significant others in the principles of health prevention and promotion to encourage and enhance a state of wellness.
