This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience directing assigned personnel in firefighting activities, such as, fire/medical emergencies, HAZMAT incidents, and/or crash/rescue operations; 2) Experience coordinating and/or conducting developmental training needs of subordinate firefighters; AND 3) Experience scheduling/planning work assignments such as fire protection and equipment inspections or fire station maintenance/cleaning and development and training assignments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain at the time of application the following DoD, Pro-Board, or IFSAC Firefighter Certification levels: Fire Officer II Fire Instructor I Fire Inspector I Airport Firefighter Driver Operator Pumper Driver Operator Aerial Driver Operator ARFF HAZMAT Incident Commander Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification issued by the State of Maryland or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Serves as a Captain in charge of the daily tactical assignments of station firefighters.
Directs tactical firefighting activities such as fire and/or medical emergencies, rescue operations and hazardous materials incidents.
Represents the department when needed in dealing with installation or other outside agency officials on fire protection issues.
Interacts with other emergency officials on and off the installation in the event of an emergency response.
Serves on committees and assigns special projects to committee members that require extensive fire protection and prevention knowledge.
Develop performance standards, complete appraisals and provide feedback as required by Army Regulations.
Analyze training needs of the department and subordinate firefighters and implements training of installation personnel in fire prevention and protection procedures.
Prepares daily duty rosters, distributes/balances workload among firefighters and adjusts with established priorities.
Directs the routine inspection and preventive maintenance services on station firefighting equipment and apparatus, motorized apparatus, and auxiliary pumping equipment.
Participates in training of installation personnel in fire prevention and protection procedures.
Provides basic life support treatment to patients performing duties such as patient assessment, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation in accordance with local protocols, performs CPR and a variety of established emergency medical techniques.
