About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic accomplishment (Ph.D. is preferred) in Systems Engineering (SE), Engineering Management (EM), Industrial Engineering (IE), Operations Research (OR), Data Science (DS), Statistics or another closely related field. 2) Ability to advise undergraduates in course selection and capstone research. 3) Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, evaluate, teach undergraduate courses within the DSE and continued growth in teaching. 4) Ability to contribute to the service of DSE.
Teach a variety of classes in the Department of Systems Engineering (DSE) as part of the Systems Engineering (SE), Engineering Management (EM), and Systems and Decision Sciences (SDS) Programs.
Work under the direction of faculty within DSE.
Instruct undergraduate cadets in DSE courses such as Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or Systems and Decision Sciences courses.
Participate in professional development activities within the Department and at the Academy including the Department’s Faculty Development Workshop (FDW).
Develop cadets in voluntary curricular and academic extracurricular activities, the character, military, or physical development programs, or community activities contributing to cadet development.
Serve in and enrich all facets of DSE's mission including teaching, scholarship, service, faculty development, and cadet development.
Participate in DSE, Academy, and professional society governance including, but not limited to serving on and leading standing and ad hoc committees.
Advise and assist a limited number of cadets in course selection and capstone projects.
