This vacancy is for a GS-0101-15, Office of Wellness (Chief) under the Assistant Commandant for Workforce and Family Services, under the Deputy Commandant for Personnel, Coast Guard (CG) Headquarters, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in Washington, DC.
Basic Requirements You MUST meet the following requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Social Services Delivery Systems - Knowledge of social services delivery systems and concepts, principles, and theories relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields to assess needs and concerns of individuals and families and understand how social or behavioral patterns or attitudes impact and affect work and family life issues. Human Services Programs - Knowledge of the principles and practices of the administration of a human services-oriented program to meet the needs of a wide variety of social problems of individuals and families. Negotiation - Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interacting with commands, individuals, families, military and community agencies, and other Headquarters and external governmental program managers. You will serve as an Office of Wellness (Chief) and be responsible for the development, coordination, and management of the following programs: family advocacy, employee assistance, workplace violence, suicide prevention, critical incident stress management, operational stress control, substance abuse prevention and response, special needs, health promotion, and suicide prevention. The primary focus of the position will involve policy development, training coordination, fiscal and personnel resource planning, and program management and evaluation for these programs CG-wide. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Supervising a team of military and civilian employees performing work at the GS- 14 and below level, providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit. Working collaboratively with Workforce and Family Services Center (WFSC) staff to address program issues related to Health, Safety, and Work-Life Regional Practice (HSWL RP) Work-Life field specialists located throughout the CG. Performing the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised, and establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Coordinating the development of personal resiliency and readiness program standards, guidelines, policies, and regulations for agency-wide application, and guidance to be used for implementing criteria and evaluating preparedness based on quality assurance visits, exercises, plans, and training.
