To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Basic Requirements: Applicants must have one-year specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. (For positions at GL-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR Education: GL-07: One year of graduate education or 27 quarter hours of graduate education in the related field of the position. GL-08: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required at the GL-08 ONLY in those instances where it is directly related to work of the position. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Experience: Some examples of this qualifying experience are: GL-07: Experience preparing correspondence such as supply requisitions forms, property inventories, and inspection reports. Experience in collecting and managing required waste manifest documents, and ensuring infectious waste is packaged, loaded and properly disposed. Experience maintaining records and reports regarding environmental sanitation conditions and concerns as required by Joint Commission (JC), state and federal regulatory agencies. Experience applying applicable codes, laws, and regulations to ensure compliance with occupational safety and environmental health standards. GL-08: Experience in ensuring safety and sanitation requirements outlined by the Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are implemented. Experience in conducting inspections and on-site surveys of all hospital areas to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures relative to hospital housekeeping and infection control principles. Experience in conducting training on environmental sanitation and housekeeping. Experience in the collection of infectious (contaminated) trash, disposal of needles, sharps and puncture resistant containers. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
Conducts inspections and on-site surveys of all hospital areas of the facility to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures related to hospital housekeeping and infection control principles. Responsible for monitoring, managing and conducting disposal of all infectious bio-hazardous waste generated from all medical sources throughout the institution. Participates in the Infection Control Committee meeting and presents environmental sanitation concerns, signification findings, and/or problems related to environmental sanitation and housekeeping. Maintains records and reports regarding environmental sanitation conditions and concerns as required by the Joint Commission (JC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Correctional Association (ACA) along with state and federal regulatory agencies. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.
