This position is located in the Exhibits Office, Center for Exhibits and Interpretation, Office of the Librarian. The position description number for this position is 443382. The salary range indicated reflects locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a flextime schedule. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.
Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Experience developing content for exhibitions or interpretive experiences.** Ability to manage exhibitions or other interpretive projects with numerous deadlines and to solve complex problems.** Ability to interact collaboratively with others.** Ability to communicate in writing.** Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
Working with higher graded staff, participates in and supports the development of all phases of exhibitions from planning and conceptualization through production and installation. Serves as a member of cross-functional teams of subject matter experts, educators and experienced designers. Performs research and analysis of assigned areas; assembles information and documentation; serves as a liaison to other offices and coordinates work of team members; and provides information to members. Performs primary and secondary research in Library and other collections, drawing on scholarly work or advice of curators or outside advisors to develop the exhibition story and content. Identifies and selects or recommends artifacts in collaboration with scholars and subject authorities; conducts assigned copyright research and documents results. Manages phases of exhibit production and installation for both onsite and online exhibitions. Participates in the development of schedules and proposed budgets for projects, gathering information in areas such as market research, cost analyses, or logistics requirements. As assigned, monitors progress of projects; identifies potential issues and recommends solutions in routine situations. Prepares documentation for products and services to be provided by contractors; assembles information for and prepares requests for contract resources and pre-award documents such as statements of work or cost estimates. Provides oversight of contractors. Develops methods for communicating exhibition content and messaging to key internal and external stakeholders to promote the exhibition and to support the development of related programming and materials. Supports the Director, CEI and Development Office in fundraising for Library exhibitions. Prepares fund raising proposals, including text, visuals, and projected budgets; provides input for presentations to donors and potential funders as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
