GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing advanced legal support work and training other legal staff; examining new legal cases for completeness, adequacy and consistency with applicable laws and regulations; conducting extensive searches of records, reference, or historical material; preparing and reviewing legal documents needed for litigation such as complaints and evidentiary exhibits; and utilizing various software applications to produce To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. The United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Central District of Illinois is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill a Legal Assistant (Grand Jury) position. For this position, you will be responsible for providing a variety of technical legal assistance services in support of in complex Grand Jury matters. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Prepares legal actions such as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, judgments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim and satisfaction of judgment. Prepares trial exhibits such as statistical charts, graphs, and timelines to be presented in court. Aids in preparing and organizing discovery and evidence in paper copies and electronically and may present the exhibits using trial presentation software in court. Tracks filings, hearings, trial dates, and schedules conferences and interviews. Prepares a wide variety of legal correspondence, reports, and other documents, many of which are voluminous and complex in format. Independently researches, evaluates, and coordinates information to establish the facts and issues of specific litigation cases, using a comprehensive knowledge of specialized legal processes. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
